Croco Loco Grande on display in Black/White and White/Black
Edelman Leather has launched a new collection called Croco Loco, an homage to both classic crocodile patterning and Andy Warhol. What do these two have in common? Well, it's no secret that Warhol started his art career doing illustrations for advertising, and the founders of Edelman - Arthur and Teddy -worked with Warhol to develop graphics for both their upholstery leather company, founded in 1981, as well as their previous company which made luxury leather hides for the fashion industry during the Sixties. Their trade show display for Croco Loco proudly makes the connection with the inclusion of two lifesize crocodiles designed by Warhol welcoming visitors to the booth and pointing attention to the collection. Another more subtle connection is the display of two traditional armchairs, reupholstered and re-purposed to show off how great Croco Loco upholsters. This may look familiar to Edelman fans, as their company logo is a drawing made by Warhol of such an armchair.

Lest you think that real crocodiles were used to make this leather, think again. Edelman uses European full grain cowhide, vegetable tanned and aniline dyed, to create Croco Loco. The hides are hand antiqued to give them contrasting color and beautiful patina. And while using real crocodile for upholstery would be considered precious and rare, this Croco Loco is both Greenguard certified and finished in Crypton, which provides stain resistance and easy cleanability, especially with liquid spills - perfect for all types of installations. The collection is available in two scales - Grande, which has 13 colors, and Pequeno, which is smaller in scale and only has three colorways. Grande's color palette consists of both strong neutrals and bright colors, and all are rich in contrast and luster, looking far more glamorous than your average crocodile, just as the Warhol ones look below.
