Design Crush: Tom Dixon

Industrial designer Tom Dixon is the latest industry celeb to hold our attention.  A true modern-day Renaissance designer, Dixon creates light fixtures, chairs, tables, vases and vessels, and other accessories.  He also acts as an interior designer, creating roomscapes with his firm Design Research Studio for personal and professional clients.  Starting his business in 2002 as a way to invigorate the British design scene, the company launched a distribution arm in the US two years ago to reach a broader American design audience.  Last year a partnership was formed with esteemed furniture house George Smith to bring Dixon's seating designs to market.  We are lucky to get to see Dixon's products at ICFF each year - we certainly can't wait for Spring 2010.  Here are some product favorites that we adore, plus a portrait of the designer himself:
